First Holy Communion & ReconciliationFirst Holy Communion is an important time in a child’s life, for it is the first time he or she receives Jesus in the Eucharist.
What is the Eucharist? The Eucharist is more than a symbol. We believe that Jesus Christ, the Second Person of the Trinity who became man, is really, truly, and substantially present in the Eucharist. In other words, the Eucharist is literally — not figuratively — Jesus’s Body and Blood under the appearance of bread and wine. Thus, we take seriously a child’s preparation for First Communion, and to help you, the parents, prepare your child to receive Jesus in the Eucharist, we do not have a traditional First Communion class. Our First Communion program is only open to those families who faithfully attend Sunday Mass at Frassati Catholic Church and are regular and active members of our Family Discipleship Program. This ensures that families are growing in faith together. We will offer two family-based sacramental workshops at various times throughout the year. The first workshop will focus on the Sacrament of Confession. Upon completion, we ask that the entire family — all who have made their First Confession — attend the Sacrament of Confession. It is of the utmost importance that a child sees his/her parents and older sibling go to Confession. This is a “Do as I do” moment, not a “Do as I say” moment. The second workshop will focus on Mass and Holy Communion. After completing both workshops, you will schedule your child’s First Holy Communion on a day most convenient for your family. Generally, First Communion can happen at any Mass. We will do our absolute best to accommodate your family’s schedule.
