Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati Catholic Church came about because of a vision developed by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston in the mid-1990s. At that time the diocese purchased 73 acres in Carolina Forest for St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School and a future parish; knowing that Horry County’s population was going to grow exponentially.
In March of 2020, Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone gave the directive to Father David Nerbun to found a new Catholic Community at Carolina Forest (CCCF) by establishing a Sunday Mass at Seton School. In under three years, CCCF grew 1000% in weekend Mass attendance. This prompted Bishop Jacques Fabre-Jeune to erect the community on February 6, 2023 as Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati Catholic Church. The name of the parish comes from the young Italian, Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901-1925). The parish seeks to follow his motto “Verso l’alto! (Towards the heights!)” by going out and living the beatitudes in our neighborhoods with cheer and good humor. Although Frassati Catholic does not yet have its own church, it utilizes Seton School for liturgies and other faith, fellowship, and service events.
