EucharistFor a Catholic, there can be no discipleship without faithful commitment to the Sunday Eucharist, even when traveling.
Sunday is the Lord’s Day, the day we should direct our time toward God. Sundays are the day when our plans should revolve around God’s plans. And more than anything, that means going to Mass. The Mass is the central way Catholics worship God. It’s the greatest prayer of the Church. In and through the Mass, we meet Jesus Christ in the Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist. The Eucharist is literally — not figuratively — Jesus’s Body and Blood under the appearance of bread and wine. |
To follow Jesus means we encounter him in the Eucharist — every Sunday.
We are not, however, always properly disposed to meeting Jesus in the Eucharist. So, a follower of Jesus is committed to receiving the Sacrament of Confession regularly.
The purpose of Confession is not to make us feel guilty but, instead, to allow us to lay our sins at the feet of Jesus. Confession is a time to renew our relationship with him. After all, Jesus is our savior, and if we cannot go to him with our sins, then to whom shall we go?
